Single Layer Capacitor and Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor

Multi-layer ceramic capacitor, abbreviated as MLCC. Multi-layer Ceramic Capacitor is made by the printed electrode (internal electrode) ceramic dielectric diaphragms in a misplaced way stacked together, after a disposable high temperature sintering to form a ceramic chip, then at both ends of the chip sealed metal layers (external electrode), thus forming a structure similar to a monolith, so also called monolithic capacitor. The structure of multi-layer ceramic capacitor mainly includes three parts: ceramic dielectric, metal internal electrode, metal external electrode. The multi-layer ceramic capacitor is a multi-laminated structure, which is simply said to be a conjoined body of multiple simple parallel-plate capacitors.

Single layer capacitor has the characteristics of small size, thin thickness, low equivalent series resistance, low loss, excellent microwave characteristics, high reliability, play the role of straightening, RF bypass, filtering, tuning and so on, while the way of wire bonding to achieve miniaturization of micro-electronic components. It is widely used in aviation, spaceflight, satellite communications radar, GPS, guidance and other military/high-end civilian microwave communications.


Multi-layer ceramic capacitor has the characteristics of small size, large capacity, which is suitable for surface mounting technology. It is often used in home appliances, electric light source, communications, automotive electronics, military communications equipment and other fields. With the rapid development of SMT, its use is more and more large. And the rapid development of the world electronic information industry, also make the developed direction of multi-layer chip capacitor development diversified.
